Tuesday, April 17

This morning after our first Israeli breakfast, we went to a museum called "Dialogue in the Dark." This exhibit took us through a simulation about what it was like to be a blind person. We were taken through a series of pitch black rooms, which each demonstrated what it's like to be blind in different environments. For example, we went through a room that simulated what it would be like to be in a city while blind. The noises and smells helped us determine where we were. We also had a guide to help us maneuver through room after room. What I found interesting about the tour was that each group was led by either a blind or visually impaired individual. Also, the food in the last room, which was a cafeteria, was served by a blind man.

After that, we went to the Palmach exhibit. The Palmach was one of a few underground military organizations which carried out operations against the occupying British. In the exhibit, we saw a series of clips portraying the lives of members of a unit in Palmach. In each room, there were props and statues to make the experience more realistic.

Later, we went to a "shook"/market to eat lunch. We split up into groups based on which school we are from. Ethan, Hannah, and Mrs. Bennet went to get hand-made pasta, while Lucas, Brett, Ilan, and I went to get some falafel. After lunch, we walked around the "shook" on Carmel Street.

Later, we got onto the bus and visited the memorial where Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. We went around asking people questions, such as where they were when the assassination occurred and what their immediate thoughts were after the assassination.

After the dinner, we returned  to Rabin square for the Yom Hazikaron Memorial. While we were there, many important figures spoke, such as President Reuven Rivlin and the Israeli equivalent to the Chief of Staff, Godi Eisenkot. At exactly 8pm the siren sounded throughout Israel and everyone just stops to pay their respects to all the fallen soldiers and victims of terror.
